Acute Stroke Unit

The Acute stroke unit cares for patients of all ages who have been admitted as an emergency following a stroke or a suspected stroke.

The care of patients within the unit is intensive and revolves around confirming diagnosis, assessing the severity of the stroke and devising a care and treatment plan.

Once a patient is considered to be stable and requiring less intensive care, they are then transferred to the Strokecare Acute ward for rehabilitation.

The medical, nursing and therapy staff continue with the treatment plan and ongoing assessment of the patient to help maximise recovery.

Useful ward information:

  • The unit offers a balcony, as well as a quiet room
  • Mobile phone use is restricted
  • Flowers are not permitted
