About us

About our hospitals by the sea

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital

Recognised locally by its blue roof, we're a relatively young acute hospital - opened in 1992.

Easy to get to

We're based on the east of the city, on the main road into town, which is easy to access from the beautiful New Forest and surrounding towns and cities of Southampton, Salisbury, Christchurch and Poole.

Exciting times ahead

Set to become the major emergency hospital for east Dorset, we're home to a number of major services, including (but not limited to):

  • stroke
  • cardiac
  • cancer care
  • older people's medicine

We need your expert skills to make our services are the very best they can be.

Modern facilities

Among our facilities is a purpose built Ophthalmic Unit, a state-of-the-art Cardiology Unit and our Jigsaw Building, which is home to our cancer and blood disorders centre, and Women's Health Unit. We're also home to district-wide services for cardiac interventions, vascular surgery and urology.

On-site nursery

Our on-site Tops Day Nursery, which is open from 6am to 8pm Monday to Friday, offers places for children aged 0 to five years. We also offer childcare vouchers as part of our staff benefits package.

Close to the beach

We're close to the New Forest in the east and the Jurassic coastline in the west. Our beautiful sandy beaches connect Bournemouth to Poole and lookout to stunning views of the Isle of Wight.

Christchurch Hospital

Loved by the community it serves, Christchurch Hospital has recently undergone huge renovations to become an integrated health hub.

We celebrated the completion of the work on our new-look hospital in Summer 2017.

The hospital, which offers non-acute care, sits alongside a local GP, pharmacy, assisted living accommodation and a privately owned care home.

An outpatient setting

Our team at Christchurch plays a key role in our patients' journey - helping to provide services and support outside of a ward environment, so that they can stay in their own home setting while accessing the services they need.

From blood tests to physiotherapy, Christchurch Hospital allows local people to access local services without having to go to an acute hospital setting.

Easy to get to

We're just out of town on main bus routes from both Christchurch, Bournemouth and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Modern facilities

Following redevelopment, our new-look outpatients department hosts services including x-ray, gastroenterology, breast, oncology, ophthalmology, and medicine for the elderly. We also host dermatology and rheumatology outpatient services, as well as phlebotomy (bloods), palliative (end of life) care and a rehabilitation centre.

Close to the harbour and New Forest

Whether you love the water, the forest, or both, you're never far from the great outdoors and the adventures they host.

Poole Hospital

We are proud of the good reputation Poole Hospital enjoys within the local community, both as a provider of first-class health care services and as a major employer.

We consistently feature within the top twenty per cent in both national patient and staff satisfaction surveys. Poole Hospital has also been voted as one of the top 100 hospitals to work for by the Nursing Times and was named the best hospital for patient experience in the 2010 Healthcare Excellence & Leadership Awards.

Close to Poole Park, Poole Harbor and award winning beaches

Poole isn't just a great place to work - it's also a fabulous place to live.

Poole Hospital is situated across the road from Poole Park and close to the town centre, within walking distance of the bus and train station. Several of the hospital’s wards enjoy picturesque views across Poole Harbour, the second largest natural harbour in the world.

Poole boasts a bustling quay and some of the best beaches in England providing a range of water sports activities. From Poole there is easy access to the Dorset countryside, renowned for its areas of outstanding natural beauty and the spectacular Jurassic Coast, ideal for sports and outdoor activities.

Easy to get to

Our town centre location means that we are conveniently situated for public transport. The bus and mainline train stations are both within easy walking distance, as are the Lighthouse Arts Centre, Poole Park and high street shops.

Discounted childcare

Trust staff are able to take advantage of a discount of the nearby Tops Day Nursery, located a few minutes from the hospital on Denmark Lane. The nursery offers flexible childcare arrangements and is open Monday to Friday 6am-8pm, including bank holidays. It caters for children from three months old up to pre-school age, and children aged five-11 years-old in the Mini Beasts Play Club. Tops also provides a baby-sitting service and emergency childcare if usual arrangements breakdown.
