Cardiac Rehabilitation

Home Exercise Programme

Once you have started your first week with us and we have been able to assess your ability to exercise, we will provide you with appropriate exercises you can do at home. We have a variety of resources available to us and will work with you to find something that is achievable for you at home.

BHF

The British Heart Foundation offer an easy to understand information website for people with cardiac conditions. They have designated an area for patients who are on a cardiac rehabilitation programme, this can be found here:
https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/support/cardiac-rehabilitation-at-home

Do not start these exercises until you have had your initial consultation with the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team. When you do start them ensure you watch "An introduction to cardiac rehab at home" first, then start with the level recommended by your cardiac rehabilitation nurse or exercise instructor.

thrive

Another useful website has been built and developed in Canada and designed for anyone with a cardiac condition. It has a particularly good 12 week programme that you can work through alongside your cardiac rehabilitation team weekly contacts. It is called the THRiVE programme, more information can be found here: https://www.healtheuniversity.ca/en/CardiacCollege. This programme will help you to focus on key aspects of your condition that you can manage yourself.
