Transitional care unit

The transitional care unit contains eight beds, which are reserved for mothers whose babies are not well enough to go home. Babies in the transitional care unit do not require intensive care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) but need extra help.

The main care for these babies is provided by mothers themselves with professional support from a midwife and maternity support worker, who are available 24 hours a day.

The midwives on the postnatal ward are also available for advice 24 hours a day.

Visiting times

Visiting times on the transitional care unit are 9am-9pm for partners and the mothers’ own children. Other visitors are welcome between 2-4 pm and 7-8 pm.

We do not allow children who are not siblings to visit.
