I graduated from Manchester University BSc in 1973 and MBChB in 1976 then received postgraduate training in clinical medicine and research in a mix of NHS and academic posts in the UK and Zambia, passing MRCP 1978, MD 1980 and FRCP 1992. I was first appointed as a consultant in 1986. My work has since been mainly clinical but with a strong research content. I currently hold honorary academic posts with Southampton and Bournemouth Universities.

Publications
I have around 160 publications that are listed on the Bournemouth University website. These are mostly related to my research and other scientific work.
Research
1. Developing alternative measures of airway conductance (1 PhD student working with us on this).
2. Methods to modify systemic inflammation in frail elderly patients (joint research with colleagues in Hong Kong).
3. Effects of acute inflammation on autonomic cardiovascular reflexes (1 PhD student currently working with us on this).
