About Dr Foster

Mr Foster is a Colorectal and General Surgeon who began working as a consultant in Poole in 2020. He performs emergency and elective abdominal surgery, and specialises in caring for patients with bowel cancer and diseases of the colon and rectum. Mr Foster graduated from medical school at Cambridge and University College London, and he was awarded the University of London’s Gold Medal in 2006 for highest performance in the final MBBS examinations. His higher surgical training was in the Wessex region, including two placements in Poole. Prior to taking up his consultant post, he undertook fellowship training in complex colorectal cancer surgery at the prestigious Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia. This fellowship allowed him to develop further expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques for treating bowel cancer. Mr Foster was awarded a doctorate from Imperial College London for his research into evaluation of technical performance of minimally-invasive rectal cancer surgery. He continues to be involved in research and regularly reviews articles for surgical journals. He is a passionate teacher of tomorrow’s surgeons, and studied for a Postgraduate Certificate of Medical Education with the University of Dundee.
