The Dorset Prosthetic Centre

The Dorset Prosthetics Centre is situated within the Royal Bournemouth Hospital at the far end of the East Wing adjacent to car park F.

The Centre provides Prosthetic services to patients of all ages with limb loss. We offer a range of prosthetic options to meet the needs of patients with upper and lower limb loss and multiple limb loss.

We offer services pre-and post natal, pre and post amputation, for patients who may be non limb wearing but have amputation related problems,and for those patients wanting a second opinion.

We do not offer a service for prosthetic eyes, maxilla-facial prosthetics or breast prosthesis.

We are an NHS service commissioned by NHS England and work to national standards. As an NHS patient attending our centre all the treatment and prosthetic provision is free.

What are the aims of the Centre?

• To provide a comprehensive quality service to all users of the Dorset Prosthetic Centre.
• To inform and involve the client and their relatives (carers) at all stages in the rehabilitation process.
• To provide a prosthetic option to meet the identified need of individual patients and enable them to reach their potential with regard to mobility, vocation, daily living and leisure.
• To offer pre-amputation advice and counselling whenever possible.
• To liaise with surgeons/GP’s/other hospitals and community staff to ensure continuation of care.
• To regularly review the clients’ requirements and offer a responsive service to meet their needs.
