The Patient Choice Award is one of a number of categories seeking to highlight some of the incredible individuals and teams that make up University Hospitals Dorset – Christchurch, Poole and Royal Bournemouth hospitals - in the trust’s first ever awards programme in which nominations can be made.

The University Hospitals Dorset Awards 2023 offers a range of recognition for hospital staff, those working for key partners in our hospitals and for volunteers who freely give their time and skills. Categories reflect the hospitals’ values, including care and kindness, teamworking, inclusivity and improvement.

A special category has been reserved for patients, the public and foundation trust members to nominate in - the Patient Choice Award. Doing so is simple – just click on the link at the bottom of this page to find an online form and guidance on what judges will be looking for to help your nomination stand out.

Judges will be looking for individuals or teams for whom nothing is too much trouble, provide consistently great care or service, treat others with kindness and respect, and are a great example to others.

“We never lose sight of the fact that ultimately we are all here to provide the best care we can for our patients,” said Siobhan Harrington, UHD’s chief executive.

“For me, this means the complete experience patients have from the moment they step foot in our hospitals, not necessarily just the clinical care we provide.

“This care and thoughtfulness comes in a range of ways, from our doctors, nurses and midwives to healthcare assistants, porters, receptionists, cleaners, volunteers, car parking teams, scientists, secretaries - an endless list of other incredible staff united in helping to make a positive difference to our patients.

“Every one of our staff can contribute to the care a patient experiences, and I hope as many members of the public as possible take the opportunity to put someone forward in the Patient Choice category.

“These awards are our first as University Hospital Dorset and I’m excited that the public can be involved – I’d love to see as many nominations in this category as possible.”

The winners will be decided by a judging panel representing a wide range of UHD staff as well as publicly-elected governors, and announced at an awards event, that hospital staff have also helped shape, at The Pavilion, in Bournemouth, on 15 June.

Nominations must be made by midnight on 30 April, 2023.
