UHD is proud to celebrate Volunteers' Week 2023

2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), when UHD will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

With this year’s theme of ‘celebrate and inspire’, we hope to encourage people to be the change that we want to see and get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them.

The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering, so taking the time during Volunteers’ Week to celebrate their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole has never been more important.

This Volunteers’ Week, we will be celebrating our volunteers with awareness stands across sites and on our social media. We will share stories and virtually introduce you to our amazing volunteers as well as the roles and responsibilities they undertake. The team will also share the onboarding and induction process for UHD volunteers.

All volunteers will be given a certificate to mark the occasion and a much needed “get-together” will be arranged later. This will also be in celebration of the face behind the mask.

Voluntary service manager for the trust, Paula Sim, said:Volunteers' Week is a chance to celebrate and recognise the fantastic contribution our volunteers make. Thanks to them the local community has benefited from a friendly face offering guidance when entering the trust, to assisting busy wards, helping the emergency deparment, to administrative roles, and much more!

Many of our volunteers helped throughout the pandemic and more recently during industrial action.  A high number of our volunteers were stood down for health reasons during the pandemic, yet still wanted to be with us desperately. If you see one of our marvellous volunteers during the week or at any time for that matter, please consider taking a minute to share your thanks with them for everything they do."
