New chair for UHD announced
Rob Whiteman CBE has been appointed the new chair of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. He will start in the role on 1 July 2022 and replaces David Moss who retired from the NHS earlier this year. Rob has been chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy for the last eight years and has held many other executive and non-executive roles including chief executive of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and chief executive of the UK Border Agency. Rob also has significant experience of working with the NHS from his time as chair of North East London Sustainability and Transformation Programme (STP) and as a non-executive director and chair of audit at Whittington Health NHS Trust and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Paula Shobbrook, our acting chief executive, said: "We are delighted to have someone of Rob's calibre and experience joining us. This is an exciting time with the establishment of Dorset's Integrated Care System (ICS) and Rob's extensive experience in the NHS, nationally and in local government makes him perfectly suited for this role. I look forward to working closely with him."
Rob said: "I am really looking forward to joining UHD. I know the trust very well as I live in Dorset and am aware of the good reputation the hospitals have locally. This is a fantastic opportunity to join as chair as the hospitals continue the £250 million transformation programme. I look forward to supporting the new chief executive and helping to ensure UHD plays an important role within the NHS Dorset ICS".
Celebrating our incredible nurses this week
This week we will be celebrating nurses across our care groups, in the run-up to #NursesDay on Thursday (12 May). Throughout the week you can visit stands in the dome at Poole and outside the restaurants at Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch for information from each of our care groups on how they represent the #bestofnursing at UHD. Today we are celebrating our international nurses – to find out more on what this brilliant group think makes the #bestofnursing.
To honour Florence Nightingale's birthday on Thursday, and to mark the transfer of knowledge between our nurses, a lamp will travel across our hospital sites on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Today, the lamp will be moving through Christchurch Hospital, tomorrow at Royal Bournemouth and Thursday at Poole. The lamp will finish its journey at the Poole Hospital Chapel for a service at 12.30pm on Nurses Day on Thursday (12 May). The service will be live streamed on our social media channels, so please tune in to share your support for our nurses.
Keep an eye on our social media for videos, pictures and more information on our incredible nursing workforce throughout the week. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our nurses for everything they bring to #TeamUHD.
Reporting a violent or aggressive incident at work – a short survey
If you have been a target of violence or aggression here at work – either physically or verbally – we encourage you to always report this via Datix/LERN. We would also recommend that you have reported this to your manager so that colleagues are aware and you can be supported.
As a Trust, we have a commitment to ensure the safety of all our colleagues. We believe that not all attacks are being reported through Datix/LERN so for a trial period we have set up this survey to help us to work out trends so we can work towards helping to protect everyone.
Please complete this short survey to help us plan.
We believe that you should report this incident via Datix/LERN. Reporting these incidents are extremely important to us so that we can investigate, learn and action any measures required to help prevent further occurrences of this type of incident in the future. If you need support with this please contact your line manager.
