Staff Bulletin 18 March 2022
Covid-19 services of reflection
We will be holding special services of reflection and remembrance across our hospitals from 11.45am on Wednesday 23 March, to reflect on the pandemic and to remember the family, friends, patients and colleagues we've lost.
The simultaneous services at Christchurch, Poole and RBH will be led by our chaplains and include the observation of a minute's silence at 12noon. There will then be an opportunity to add a ribbon to our ribbon trees.
You are welcome to join the services in person but please maintain social distancing.
- Christchurch: at the front of Christchurch Hospital
- Poole: on the lawn behind Churchfield House
- RBH: by the lake
Alternatively, you can tune into the services as we stream them live on our social media channels:
- Christchurch: UHD Instagram
- RBH: UHD Facebook
- Poole: UHD Twitter
We hope you can join us.

POOLE: Lift update
We are aware that various lifts across Poole Hospital have not been working for a long period of time. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to our staff, patients and visitors. We will be meeting with suppliers to ensure this does not happen again.
The lifts should be back in service from next week and notices will be placed on lifts to provide updates.
Improving services for unpaid carers
If you're involved in discharge planning we need your help. When a patient arrives at home, we know their continued recovery is often in the hands of an unpaid carer. We want to know how carers find the hospital experience and what is it like for them when their cared-for person arrives home. Please share your views with this survey.
If you would be interested in further supporting this work please contact Karen Uphill, carer support advisor, on ext. 8714 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

New hospital programme team visits Dorset
The senior team responsible for the national New Hospital Programme (NHP) visited Dorset this week to see first-hand the initial development work for NHP projects in the region and the benefit to the community.
They had a chance to see progress at RBH, St Ann's, Poole Hospital, Dorset County Hospital as well seeing the 'health village' concept at the Outpatient Assessment Clinic at Beales and hearing about South Walks House in Dorchester.
The five Dorset NHP projects are defined as 'agile' schemes meaning they are ready to go quickly and to deliver by 2024.
Mobile phones at work
Please could we remind all staff not to use their personal mobile phones in clinical areas and particularly when escorting patients to and from departments. They should also not be used when waiting for patients to receive treatments. Thank you.

So long to Stephen
Yesterday we said goodbye to Stephen Flatt, head of nursing and professions. Having worked in the NHS across the country for the last 47 years, Stephen has worked on children's wards, in the community, and with the elderly.
He said: "The thing that has inspired me most is helping people achieve their potential. If this is for patients, this could be getting better. For staff this could be achieving their career goals. If you are at the start of your nursing career, well done you have chosen a fantastic career. Make sure you have fun, take any opportunity that comes your way and always strive to be the best you can be."
Goodbye to Jacky and Melanie
Diabetes nurse specialist colleagues, Jacky Ryder and Melanie Weiss, are retiring this month. Between them they have dedicated over 50 years of care, education and therapy for our local population with diabetes, in particular those with type 1 diabetes at RBH. They have helped train hundreds of other diabetes health professionals from around the country and have brought unique skills to our services with passion, dedication and love.
An open lunch will be held in the learning zone (education room) in BDEC next Wednesday (23 March) at 1-2pm. If you can pop in to say hello, or if you have any memories to share please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
