Covid booster clinics end this weekend – your last chance to book

UHD clinics offering the Covid-19 booster vaccination together with the annual flu jab end this weekend. After this staff will need to arrange their own booster vaccination.

There are still places available to book at the UHD clinic at Royal Bournemouth on Sunday, and staff are encouraged to do so as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Click here to make your booking if it has been six months since your last Covid-19 vaccination and you have been clear of Covid for 28 days.

If you are unable to make a booking you can find out how to arrange yours on the NHS website.

Please note that the NHS app does not currently show booster vaccinations. This will not affect your NHS Covid Pass, available from within the app.

Flu jabs: dedicated weekday drop-in flu clinics continue at Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch - check the latest news on the intranet for the schedule.

Trial of improvements to Discharge 2 Assess processes

A new on-site process to decide Discharge To Assess (D2A) referrals is being trialled across our hospitals.

Referrals will now be assessed by multidisciplinary teams based in our hospitals and representing all health and social care organisations in the area.

This decision-making process replaces the Single Point of Access, and is hoped will offer a range of benefits, including:

  • faster discharges with fewer steps
  • better outcomes and a better patient and carer experience
  • clearer ownership of decisions
  • improved staff satisfaction
  • better use of resources.

The Cluster 1 team will look after Poole-registered patients, while Bournemouth and Christchurch-registered patients will be covered by the Cluster 2 team.

Ward staff should continue to compete D2A forms in the usual way. Any queries that may arise will be resolved in person and on site, rather than by email.

Please contact the discharge team via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you have any questions or queries.

We all have a voice that counts...

We want to hear your open and honest answers about working for UHD in our first year as a recently merged trust. We know this past year has been the hardest of years that no-one expected but tell us the full picture and how it feels working in the trust over the past year and in this current climate.

We have a big opportunity to shape the future of UHD, together we can – by staff speaking up and completing their national NHS Staff Survey honestly. Changes can only happen, no matter how subtle, by staff being heard; we are asking you to take the opportunity to do so.

RBH: Ground-breaking day for The BEACH Building

Tomorrow (3 November) we reach a very important milestone in our transformation plans with the official ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of The BEACH Building construction.

Look out for a short film of the highlights to be shared following the event and we'll also be uploading images from the day on our social media channels using the hashtag #BEACHbuild.

RBCH: Theatre codes and some theatre names are changing

The current RBCH theatre codes, and some theatre names, are changing in preparation for implementation of the single PAS (eCaMIS). This is to avoid clashes and duplications so that staff can easily identify which site a procedure is being undertaken at. Click here to read the new names and codes.

The existing theatre names and codes will continue to be used for all procedures booked for dates between now and 31 December. From 1 November, schedules will be added under the new theatre names and codes to allow patients to be booked for procedures from 1st January 2022 and beyond.

The following steps will be required to ensure patients are booked under the correct theatre name and code:

  • Any patients (TCI's) already booked onto the existing RBH theatre codes for dates beyond 31 December 2021 will need to be transferred onto the new RBH theatre codes. For TCIs whose procedures are being undertaken on dates before 1 January 2022, these will not be able to be booked on the new theatre codes and should be booked onto the existing RBH theatre codes.
  • Any new bookings for TCI's for dates from 1 January 2022 are to be booked directly into the new RBH theatre codes. You will not be able to book TCI's that are being undertaken on dates beyond 1 January 2022 on the existing theatre codes.
  • On 1 January 2022, the existing RBH theatre codes will be removed from eCaMIS and all work will continue on the new theatres.

RBH: Return your respirator hood to ensure winter safety

There are currently only four out of our 23 respirator hoods available in the equipment library.

Some hoods (like the one pictured) are placed in selected departments for ease of access; however, the rest have been sent to wards who have not returned them.

The hoods need to be returned urgently for service checks and filter changes, as the filters will be out of their six month date and not safe to use. The infection prevention and control fit test team are supporting the equipment library to ensure we have them in good order in preparation for winter.

Departments who maintain their own hoods should check dates on filters now and arrange for the hoods to be returned to the equipment library if they need replacing.

Can you support our phlebotomy teams?

Our phlebotomy teams are urgently looking for staff competent in venepuncture to assist them with clinics at both Bournemouth and Poole.

If you can help, contact Claudette Brady, UHD phlebotomy service manager, on ext. 4789.

#PurpleLightUp is a global movement that celebrates the contribution of the 386 million disabled employees around the world. It is held on the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December.

Our Purple Light Up Day celebrations are being organised by our ProAbility network. Some organisations mark the day by lighting up buildings in purple, while at UHD we will be hosting talks on Teams, sharing helpful resources and hosting drop-in sessions with the ProAbility network at each of our sites.

The network is a space for colleagues with disabilities to share their experiences to influence positive change across UHD in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. The network also gives opportunities for members to discuss what might stop them from disclosing a physical, hidden or mental health related disability.
