The pipes are calling! Official topping out ceremony for Poole's new theatres
The official ceremony to mark the ‘topping out' of the new theatres building at Poole Hospital will take place later today, with Edward Argar MP, Minister for Health. He will be joined by colleagues from UHD and Integrated Health Projects (IHP), the main contractor for the build. All will be led to the theatre roof by a bag piper, a tradition of Sir Robert McAlpine, one of the contractors.
The new theatre building is a brand-new purpose-built five storey tower incorporating a four-table ‘barn' theatre. Thousands of patients each year will benefit from shorter waiting times associated with establishing a planned care hospital.
Look out for photos of the event on our social media channels.
Celebrate International Clinical Trials Day today
Clinical Trials Day is a well-deserved 'time out' to recognise the people who conduct clinical trials and to say thanks for what they do every day to improve public health.
This day of celebration also provides our community with a unique opportunity to raise awareness of clinical trials – and of clinical research as a career option – among the greater public. Pop down to the dome and the atrium today (20 May) to meet some of the team and find out about the important role clinical trials play in our trust.

Testing for hepatitis C
Our liver nursing team has been raising awareness of hepatitis C this week, reminding our community how easy testing and treating the virus can be.
Testing to see if someone has been in contact with the virus is carried out with a finger prick blood test and results are delivered within 20 minutes. A further follow up test confirms whether they are hepatitis C positive and if so, in 95% of cases, the virus can be cured in 8-12 weeks of treatment.
