Staff Bulletin 23 September 2022
Book your Covid and flu vaccinations now
Covid booster and flu vaccinations for staff begin in early October and can now be booked. All staff are strongly encouraged to take up the offer of separate vaccinations to protect ourselves this winter. These will be provided in weekend clinics in the same appointment.
The Covid vaccine booster provided this year is made by Moderna and is bivalent, and offers protection against the highly transmissible omicron variant, as well as a number of other strains. The vaccines not only protect you but those around you, and directly support our hospitals in delivering safe, effective care as we move towards winter and the anticipated further increase in activity this brings. Clinics will run during at weekends in our outpatients departments for four weeks, alternating between Poole and RBH, starting at RBH on the weekend of 8-9 October.

If you can help deliver the vaccines in our clinics at weekends, and have given vaccinations in the last couple of years, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Delay to roll out of new emergency paging and call system and emergency calls
We have had to delay the launch of our new emergency response system, which was planned for Tuesday (27 September). We are upgrading the whole emergency paging system, including 200 pagers, with investment of £300,000 so that UHD has a modern system for decades to come. Our external supplier needs to deploy the final configuration but cannot do it for our proposed launch date. We know this may be disappointing, but we will let you know the revised date very soon and it should still be in the next couple of weeks. Attendees heard updates around the launch of the flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign, the pressures on our front door, progress on our transformation programme and the importance of services coming together, and helping each other through the cost of living crisis.

New consent training
Clinical staff will now see a new eLearning topic on their green heart called 'consent - level 1'. This course provides the essential knowledge and skills required in order to obtain consent correctly, confidently and lawfully. Login to your BEAT VLE and click on 'role' to view your green heart to access this eLearning.
Doctors and those who are clinical band 6 and above will not see this new topic – you will require level two consent training which will follow shortly.
Embracing Microsoft 365
We are looking to use more Microsoft 365 services to help improve IT systems and we are moving departmental data from shared drives (L and S drives) into Teams/SharePoint.
We are currently working through each of our servers to find departmental data, and will then discuss the migration of that data with the data owners.

Annual Members' Meeting (AMM) and The Transformation of our Hospitals talk
Our AMM will be held in person at RBH at 5pm on 17 October. The event, which will also be live streamed via Teams, will include presentations from Siobhan Harrington and our chief finance officer, Pete Papworth, on the 2021/22 Annual Report and Accounts and forward planning for 2022/23. Sharon Collett, lead governor, will also give a presentation on the Council of Governors.
Following the AMM, a talk on The Transformation of our Hospitals will be presented by Dr Harry Adlington, emergency medicine consultant. The talk will give an update on the exciting changes happening to our hospitals and the benefits these will bring to the local area.
The meeting and talk will be held in the lecture theatre in the education centre and light refreshments will be provided as well as free parking. To find out more click here.
Maternity services come together at Poole
Our maternity teams have completed their final step in moving across all services to Poole. The antenatal clinic at RBH closed its doors for the last time mid-September, with teams launching a combined antenatal clinic and maternity triage service from St Mary's Maternity Unit.
Services will remain there until the completion of the BEACH Building. Until that time, all antenatal appointments and in-hospital birthing options will operate from the Poole site. A huge amount of work has taken place in streamlining clinics for pregnancy. A big thank you to the clinical and transformation teams on both sites for their work and support of each other throughout this project.
