Last chances to book winter vaccinations at UHD

Weekend clinics offering the Covid-19 booster jab together with the flu vaccination injection in our hospitals will end on 7 November.

There's still time to book your appointment, with spaces still available. Book yours here. Six months must have passed between your second dose and the booster, and you must be 28 days clear of a Covid-19 infection.

Once our clinics end, staff will need to arrange their booster themselves through the NHS website, or attend one of our drop-in flu clinics at Poole, Royal Bournemouth or Christchurch, for a flu jab - for full details see the intranet under latest news.

"Nothing changes from the staff survey"... it really does!

It would be easy to think nothing changes from staff surveys, and there's no point, however that's not the case for the national NHS Staff Survey. Over the years it has resulted in many changes within the trust both big and small.

One example would be the creation of staff networks and listening events. We want our trust to be as inclusive as possible and together we can make sure it is and does always stay that way. Have your chance to have your say by completing your staff survey and make sure your voice is heard.

RBCH: Theatre codes and some theatre names are changing

The current RBCH theatre codes, and some theatre names, are changing in preparation for implementation of the single PAS (eCaMIS). This is to avoid clashes and duplications so that staff can easily identify which site a procedure is being undertaken at. Click here to read the new names and codes.

The existing theatre names and codes will continue to be used for all procedures booked for dates between now and 31 December. From 1 November, schedules will be added under the new theatre names and codes to allow patients to be booked for procedures from 1st January 2022 and beyond.

The following steps will be required to ensure patients are booked under the correct theatre name and code:

  • Any patients (TCI's) already booked onto the existing RBH theatre codes for dates beyond 31 December 2021 will need to be transferred onto the new RBH theatre codes. For TCIs whose procedures are being undertaken on dates before 1 January 2022, these will not be able to be booked on the new theatre codes and should be booked onto the existing RBH theatre codes.
  • Any new bookings for TCI's for dates from 1 January 2022 are to be booked directly into the new RBH theatre codes. You will not be able to book TCI's that are being undertaken on dates beyond 1 January 2022 on the existing theatre codes.
  • On 1 January 2022, the existing RBH theatre codes will be removed from eCaMIS and all work will continue on the new theatres.

RBH: Reduced heating and hot water in the Derwent and Jigsaw this weekend ahead of arrival of new modular theatre unit

From today (29 October) until Monday (1 November) a reduced supply of hot water and heating will impact the Derwent and the Jigsaw ahead of the arrival of the new modular theatre unit. The eye unit and theatres will be unaffected.

In the event that there is no hot water please can wipes and alcohol gel be used. This has been agreed in a series of meetings with members for each area, including infection control, facilities management, and the risk team. A supply of local radiators and extra blankets for patients will also be available if any cold spots emerge.

This reduced service is due to necessary pipework re-configurations before the delivery of the new modular theatre unit.

Our new modular theatre is being delivered over the weekend of 12-14 November.

We are expecting some disruption on site as multiple lorries deliver the unit.

The new theatre will be aligned with the existing Derwent Theatres. The ground area between Jigsaw and Derwent has been excavated and preparations have been made to ensure the unit can be connected swiftly to minimise the impact on travel around the site.

The theatre is due to open by the end of December and we will be setting up visiting dates for clinical staff to have tours and training on the unit and all its features before it is in use.

POOLE: Changes to diabetes inpatient referral pathway next week

In order to make the best use of our resources for patients, the diabetes team has made some changes to their referral pathway. From Monday (1 November) referrals will be accepted via EPR only. The Poole Hospital diabetes team will be notified when any new referrals are made. These changes will enable the team to triage requests and prioritise high risk patients.

To refer a patient via EPR select: Create Documents, New Request, Inpatient Referral and then select 'Diabetes Inpatient Nurse Specialist' from the drop down menu (not 'RBH - Diabetes'). Please supply detailed information about the patient and the reason for the referral. The Poole Diabetes Team will be notified when any new referrals are made. These changes will enable the team to triage requests and prioritise high risk patients.

There will still be a bleep available (0994) but this should only be used for urgent requests such as a patient newly diagnosed with type one diabetes, a patient in diabetic ketoacidosis, a patient in hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state, or a patient with severe hypoglycaemia.

If you have any questions about the new referral pathway please bleep a member of the Diabetes Team on 0994.

Does your patient require urgent imaging?

If you are taking care of a critically ill patient and they require urgent imaging please contact the radiology department to discuss. Do not solely rely on electronic requesting.

Are you up to date with your recruitment training?

We have a new recruitment training course focusing on interview skills and fair recruitment.

If you are adding vacancies or shortlisting on Trac or chairing interviews it is mandatory to undertake this course every three years to ensure your skills are kept up to date.

Everyone who has any involvement with the recruitment process is also welcome to attend.

Please see the HR pages of the RBCH intranet (under recruitment) to book this training, 2022 dates are coming soon.

Have you say on our electronic patient record system (EPR)

All clinicians who use our EPR system are being invited by NHSX to share their feedback via a new survey.

NHSX is a joint unit of NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care, supporting local NHS and care organisations with digital transformation.

The EPR has an important role in delivering safe and effective care and we want to do everything we can to improve your experience of using it. By participating in the survey, you will help us understand how the system is working and what we can do to make it better.

Takes just eight minutes to have your say in this questionnaire by 10 December.

Adding the correct details to job adverts

When adding vacancies to Trac please make clear in the advert which site or sites the role is based at and what hours/days/shifts are required.
