Newly Diagnosed Course

The therapy team at Christchurch hospital co-ordinate an eight-week programme for people with a diagnosis of Idiopathic Parkinson’s in the last three years or have had no previous significant therapy input.  The aim is to provide a toolbox to allow patients to be able to move forward with information and advice and enable self-management of their own health and wellbeing.

The weekly sessions include exercise and an information session.  The exercise includes a warmup, circuits including flexibility, posture, strengthening co-ordination, balance and a cool down.

You need to be referred by a Parkinson’s Specialist, have your own transport and be committed to attending the whole course, as well as being independently mobile, and physically well enough to participate in the exercise classes.
