Podiatry service

The podiatry service provides a range of specialist support and advice relating to the care of feet.

High-risk diabetic foot service

If you are diabetic and have a foot emergency such as a new ulcer, swelling, pain or discoloration, you should see your GP or other health professional who can refer you to the service. We can then provide care and treatment as appropriate.

Hospital-based foot care

Patients with a foot ulcer or acute charcot are immediately referred directly to the hospital-based multi-disciplinary foot care team. Management of these conditions will be shared by the hospital and community teams.

Rheumatology foot health

The foot health needs of people with rheumatism can be very different. They range from general foot care and infections, to dealing with changes in structure.The following services are available:

  • Dealing with structural problems in the forefoot
  • Providing shoe inserts to deal with rear foot problems
  • Enabling people to manage the foot and ankle aspects of their condition
  • Localised therapies

Attending the clinic

Please bring an up-to-date medication list, including the dose and frequency, and ensure you advise clinic staff of any changes to your medication.

You may have a number of tests, including scans and X-rays to help the staff diagnose and manage your foot condition

Accessing the service

You will need GP or health professional referral to be considered for the treatment.
