About CDC

• The Children’s Development Centre has six clinic rooms, a play room/outdoor area, two sensory rooms, a speech and language room and an occupational therapy room.
• Our patients range from 0-16years old, but sometimes we can care for people until they are 18 – in special circumstances.
• We look after children and young people with various health needs and there will be a variety of doctors, nurses and therapists running specialist clinics to cater for these patients.

Staff

• A variety of staff work in CDC on a daily basis - please refer to our photo board.
• Nursing and medical students can also be found in clinics or helping in outpatients (please speak to a nurse in charge if you would rather not have a student involved with your child’s appointment).

Appointments

• When attending an appointment, usually the nursing staff will weigh and measure your child (children under two years will need to have their clothes/nappy off for this). Occasionally the doctor may ask the nurse to do your child’s blood pressure, oxygen saturation and/or urine sample.
• If you are 20 minutes late for your appointment then you may not be seen by the doctor and the appointment will have to be rescheduled.
• There are times when the clinic may run late, we will keep you informed and give you the opportunity to leave the department for a walk/coffee if its a long wait.

Facilities

Costa Coffee - Costa Coffee is located in the main hospital entrance. Open Monday - Friday 7am - 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am - 6pm

WHSmith - WHSmith is located also in the main entrance offering a range of drinks, snacks, toiletries and magazines. M&S Food can also be purchased here. Open 7am - 8pm daily. Weekend times may vary.

Dolphin Restaurant - Dolphin Restaurant on the lower ground floor is the hospitals main restaurant serving a large selection of food and drinks. Open 7am - 7:30pm except between 12pm - 1:30pm which is for staff only.

Infection control

• Please do not attend children’s outpatients if you or your child shows symptoms of an infectious illness.
• We ask parents/carers to ensure strict hand hygiene measures are followed when entering/leaving department.
• We have a DVD player and access to colouring equipment and toys.

Parking

• There are three parent spaces and two designated disabled spaces outside the CDC.
• Parking is also available at the hospital car park. You will need to pay for the parking at the car park office or using the machine in the main hospital entrance on level 1.
