About Outpatients

  • Children’s outpatients has nine clinic rooms and one room for blood tests (run by two nurses).
  • Pre op assessments are carried out by a trained nurse.
  • Our patients range from 0-16 (but sometimes we can care for people until they are 18, in special circumstances.)
  • We look after children and young people with various health need and there will be a variety of doctors and nurses running specialist clinics to cater for these patients.

Staff

  • A variety of staff work on the wards on a daily basis. See our photos boards in the corridor.
  • Nursing and medical students can also be found in clinics or helping on outpatients (please speak to a nurse in charge if you would rather not have a student involved with your child’s appointment.

Appointments

  • When attending an appointment, usually the Nursing staff will weigh and measure your child (Children under 2 years will need to have their clothes/nappy off for this). Occasionally the doctor may ask the nurse to do your child’s blood pressure, oxygen saturation and/or urine sample.
  • If you are 20 minutes late for your appointment, then you may not be seen by the doctor and the appointment will have to be rescheduled.
  • There are times when the clinic may run late, we will keep you informed and give you the opportunity to leave the department for a walk/coffee if it’s a long wait.
