Cycle to Work Scheme

vivup

Cycling to work is a great way to stay fit and by taking part in the Cycle to Work scheme you can also make significant tax, National Insurance and pension savings on the cost of your brand new bike.

Who can take part in this scheme?

All part-time and full-time employees are eligible to join the Cycle to Work Scheme. Bank Staff are not eligible to join because they are not permanent employees of the Trust.

How does it work?

You will be able to choose one or two bikes from Vivup - or through a local participating bike shop, provided the main use of the cycle/s (i.e. at least 50% of its usage) will be for journeys to or from work. You will pay less tax, National Insurance (NI) and pension contributions. You will also be spreading the cost over the scheme year.

You may only make one selection per annum but this may include up to two bikes and accessories up to a total value not exceeding £5000. Once your selection has been reviewed and approved by the Trust you will be provided with a Hire Agreement Form which you will need to sign and return to Vivup Bikes can be chosen with a minimum value of £100 and a maximum value of £5000.

The hire agreement will be for a period of 12 months. Those who currently take part in the Cycle to Work Scheme will continue to enjoy this benefit and no action is required from you at this time. If you are selecting a bike for the first time you will need to follow the instructions set out in the "How do I join the scheme?" section below. You will be able to see the salary reductions via the Staff Benefits Programme portal. This will be for a fixed period of twelve months, even if you have not yet collected the bike.

At the end of the Hire Agreement you can decide whether to purchase the bicycle or return it. To acquire the bicycle or return the bicycle, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below.

Employees on fixed term contracts will be considered as eligible to join the scheme, on an individual basis.

How do I join the Cycle to Work Scheme?

Once you have read this guidance document and determined the benefits that are be beneficial to you, you should:

Log onto the Vivup portal.

Please see this link on how the scheme works.

By signing and confirming to the hire agreement, you are agreeing to a variation to your contract of employment to reflect the salary sacrifice for the benefits you will receive.

The Trust will be asked to authorise your selections by Vivup and should you meet the relevant criteria your selections will be finalised. If there are any issues we need to discuss with you (such as national minimum wage considerations), we will contact you directly.

Your selections will appear on your payslip each month.

Can I order a bike from any bike shop?

There is a list of participating bike shops on Vivup but if you would like to order a bike from a certain shop that is not listed this may be possible, but you would need to contact Vivup before ordering to check that this is possible.

Why is the Trust running the scheme?

The Trust's Green Travel Plan encourages employees to ride a bicycle to work and aid in reducing congestion and environmental pollution.
