Meet the team

Dr Ahmed Waise

I have extensive experience in looking after people with lipid and metabolic conditions and run the lipid and metabolic clinics at the Royal Bournemouth hospital, looking after people living in the Dorset and West Hampshire areas. My clinics are held in the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre (BDEC) on Tuesdays twice a month and every Wednesday afternoon.

About us

We are based in the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre (BDEC) located at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. We see people who have lipid and metabolic conditions. Lipids are blood fats and include cholesterol.

For health care professionals

Lipid Disorders

We run weekly clinics for patients with genetic and polygenic hyperlipidaemia and work closely with our Diabetes Team to manage diabetes dyslipidaemia. We also work closely with our Cardiac Team for secondary prevention of coronary heart disease and provide nursing support for the PCSK9 Inhibitors helpline. We liaise with the British Heart Foundation familial hypercholesterolaemia nursing service in Hampshire and the genetic lab in Bristol.

We operate a 'choose and book' service.

Post bariatric care

NICE recommends post bariatric care for a minimum of two years after bariatric surgery, to be delivered by the same tier 4 service. We have a dedicated bariatric dietician and a metabolic physician team, who form part of our bariatric multidisciplinary team.

Renal stone prevention clinics

We manage patients with a history of renal stones, especially if recurrent, in the following way:

  • Stone analysis
  • Fasting urine pH
  • 24 hour urine for calcium, oxalate, magnesium, sodium, potassium and urate. Two containers are required (acid and alkaline preservatives)
