Outpatients self check-in kiosks roll out to RBH and XCH

Self-check in kiosks are now available in main outpatients at XCH and RBH, as well as in the Derwent and thoracic department.

The kiosks reduce administration involved in booking patients in, enabling more time to be spent with each patient clinically. Staff can also use the data from the interactive kiosks, provided by InTouch, to track and manage each stage of a patient's outpatient journey in real time, while clinicians can ‘call' patients to their clinic room from their PC via wall mounted screens in waiting areas.

The kiosks, part of our outpatients digital transformation programme, mirror the same facilities already available at Poole Hospital.

Orthopaedic outpatients at RBH will follow in a later roll out. Want to know more? Find it on the intranet under the outpatients section, or contact:

  • Superusers RBH: Karen Turtle, Nicky Burress, Tracey Courts, Kathy Worth, Sarah Smith, Caroline Berry and Gabriela Kuzara-Carnell
  • Superusers XCH: Sarah Desborough, Allyson Rogers and Kathy Worth.

Improving end of life care

Many of us play a role in providing end of life care, whether we work on the wards, in the catering department, or volunteers - the welcome we offer, a smile, small acts of kindness can make a huge difference.

We want the views of all staff who come into contact with patients approaching end of life. Your opinion matters. Please take a minute to complete the NACEL survey so we can listen to you, celebrate the outstanding care you already provide, and learn how to improve this important part of our service.

New syringe pumps for palliative care

There is currently a replacement process underway to phase out the Version 2 CME T34 syringe pumps with the newer model BodyGuard™ T. There is very little difference in how the pumps are prepared/operated. There are some subtle differences in pump signage, and different advice on battery storage when the pump not in use, detailed here.

Please do not contact the equipment team, they will replace the pumps at routine servicing or contact you to seek pumps for replacement. The changeover periods are from 8 August at RBH and 15 August at Poole. Please ensure all staff using these pumps are aware that they may still see the two different versions of syringe pump during changeover. Complete the relevant on line tutorial from BD. You will need to register on this web link or by following this QR code. You will get a certificate at the end of this process. Familiarise yourselves with the alarm codes for the BodyGuard™T here. You can view the new policy and SOP on the intranet.

For Poole please contact Liz Reynolds, end of life care practice educator, ext. 3152 and for RBH contact our palliative and end of life care specialist nurses, ext. 6021.
