Diabetes Centre

Diabetes Centre staff

Many people work in the Diabetes Centre from many different professions. We work closely together in an effort to provide the best possible care, the person with diabetes always being the most important in the team!

Consultants

There are currently four consultants working in the diabetes team. They all see patients in their diabetes clinics, and also have specialties within the diabetes team. They are responsible for training junior doctors, and for assessing whether new treatments and ways of treating diabetes are appropriate for the Poole population.

Diabetes specialist nurses

We have five diabetes specialist nurses in our team. One of them works specifically on the inpatient wards throughout Poole Hospital, ensuring that people with diabetes receive appropriate care whilst in hospital. The others are based in the Diabetes Centre, and provide education to people with diabetes so that they can look after their condition themselves. They train people to carry out their own diabetes testing and to give their own insulin.

Diabetes specialist dietitians

There are two diabetes specialist dietitians in the team. They advise patients on how to change their lifestyle, including what they eat, in order to look after their diabetes as well as possible.

Diabetes specialist podiatrists

We have a team of podiatrists in the centre who specialise in diabetic foot disease, working closely with the doctors, surgeons and nurses in order to try to prevent serious foot problems in diabetic patients.

Other staff

There are lots of others who work in the Diabetes Centre, such as the clinic nurses, eye screeners, receptionists and clerical Staff. All of them work hard to contribute to the team-based care that we provide for people with diabetes.
