Cancer Services

At University Hospitals Dorset (UHD), we provide excellent clinical care and support services for patients suffering from various kinds of cancer.

Our multi-disciplinary team approach ensures patients receive the best care and we aim to constantly improve in order to enhance the quality and efficiency of the patient journey. As part of this we aim to:

  • Reduce waiting times for cancer patients as detailed in the National Cancer Plan.
  • Ensure that no patient waits longer than 62 days for treatment.
  • Ensure that all patients have a booked care pathway.

Our Royal Bournemouth Hospital provides treatment for various kinds of cancer, including bowel, breast, lung, skin, upper GI, colorectal and urological cancers. In addition, the hospital also runs a haematology service.

Our Poole Hospital is home to the Dorset Cancer Centre and is the major specialist cancer treatment centre for adults in the county. The centre provides a wide range of treatments including radiotherapy and chemotherapy for both common and rare cancers. The treatment of children with cancer is undertaken in partnership with the paediatric oncology centre in Southampton and the children's unit in Poole Hospital.
