Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team
Some patients in hospital have more complex needs that require the support of a hospital-based specialist palliative care team.
We are a support and advisory service working with the staff in UHD.
The hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team offer a range of services and aim to:
- give advice about managing pain and other physical symptoms
- support you while you are facing serious illness
- offer practical suggestions to help you do the things that are important to you
- offer support to those close to you
- introduce you to other services that might be helpful to you, such as hospices, Chaplaincy, palliative care community teams and welfare benefits advice

Hospital Specialist Palliative and End of Life Care Lead

Specialist Palliative Care nurses
- We have a team of specialist nurses covering both Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals who will see patients with specialist needs, for example difficult to manage symptoms.
End Of Life nurses
- We have a team of specialist nurses covering both Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals who will see any patient in their last days/hours of life.

The Hospital Palliative Care Team office hours vary between sites.
Royal Bournemouth Hospital Palliative Care Team is available 7 days a week (including bank holidays) from 8am-4pm ☏ 0300 019 6021.
The Poole Hospital Palliative Care Team is available from Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm ☏ 0300 019 8102
Outside these hours there is specialist palliative care advice available to the hospital teams from 24 Hour Specialist Palliative Care adviceline 0300 019 8115.
If you or your relative are an inpatient at Poole or Royal Bournemouth Hospitals and think you should be referred to the Hospital Palliative Care Team please speak to any of the team looking after you and they will be able to refer if appropriate.
