Transforming University Hospitals Dorset

Our future together - a £500m investment is underway across the University Hospitals Dorset sites - Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch hospitals. With funding going into local health services, ensuring patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

There have been a lot of changes at University Hospitals Dorset and these continue this summer with patients and staff benefitting from new, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Royal Bournemouth Hospital will become the region's major emergency centre - providing faster, better specialist emergency care when you need it. Poole Hospital becomes the biggest major planned care centre in the country - reducing waiting times.

You can keep up with all these developments through UHD’s website. The hospital team is also arranging public engagement events across our region where you can come along and hear more about the plans and ask any questions. Read more about these events here.

Latest brochure

We produce a regular Transforming Care Together brochure, highlighting the latest updates from all three UHD sites and showcasing the numerous benefits for both patients and staff. Please do download, print and share the brochure.

In July 2026 Poole Hospital's Emergency Department will move over to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with the separation of emergency and planned care providing many benefits. However, some residents have expressed concerns over this move. In the event that you share a social media post and receive a negative comment or question, please refer the resident to us and we'll be happy to respond.

Videos

We have videos and animations available to help illustrate the benefits that the £500m transformation brings. You are welcome to use the below on waiting area screens or social media channels. Alternatively, we can email the files to you.

This animation highlights the benefits of separating emergency care from planned care at UHD sites.
