Vascular Surgery

Alongside Interventional Radiology, we provide emergency and elective treatment for patients with conditions of the vascular system.

Vascular disease affects the arteries and veins that carry blood throughout the body. These conditions include:

  • aortic aneurysms
  • carotid artery disease, stroke and transient ischaemic attack
  • peripheral arterial disease
  • diabetic foot complications
  • deep vein thrombosis (affecting the upper and lower limb suitable for thrombolysis)
  • varicose veins

The Dorset and Wiltshire Vascular Network

vascular logo

Vascular services across the country have been reconfigured into a 'hub and spoke' model, meaning we work closely with hospitals across the Dorset and Wiltshire region to ensure you get the very best care.

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the main hub, performing the majority of major elective and all emergency vascular procedures, for example aortic aneurysms.

Many outpatient clinics, vascular investigations and some other less severe procedures take place in our partner hospitals, including Poole General Hospital, Dorset County Hospital, Salisbury District Hospital and Jersey General Hospital.

If you require specialist vascular treatment you may be seen at more than one hospital across the network, and may be transferred between hospitals for your care. However we'll do our best to ensure we deliver as much care as possible locally.

Where you'll see us

Our Vascular Surgical Service provides access to a dedicated vascular theatre, a treatment room and an interventional radiology suite. We also work closely with Critical Care, Radiology, Anaesthetics, Endocrinology, our Stroke Team and Therapy Services.

Our visiting times are 2-4pm and 6.30-8pm. Please do speak with staff on the ward if you’d like to visit outside of these times.

You can contact us at 0300 019 3626, ext. 4769 or 4764.
