Advanced Nursing
Within our vascular service we work as a network team of advanced nurses across 3 hospital sites within Dorset and Wiltshire. We have teams within Dorchester Hospital, Bournemouth and Salisbury District hospitals, with outreach clinics in Weymouth, Christchurch and Poole. Our team consists of qualified registered nurses who have undertaken advanced practice study at degree and master’s level to care for our patients with enhanced assessments and advanced skills and knowledge. This team of specialist nurses is led by Claire Thomson our lead advanced clinical practitioner who has a background of almost 30 years within the vascular speciality. Her extended knowledge scope includes a passion for those patients with intermittent claudication, their diagnosis, treatment plans and raising awareness for those patients with peripheral arterial disease both locally and nationally. Our helpful and skilled advanced nursing team can assess, diagnose, prescribe, make long term plans and support both inpatient and outpatient care, whilst training and delivering high quality services across each of our sites. We have teams of trained nurses who also specialise in Lymphodema care, patients having major limb amputations and complex leg ulcers as well as claudication. We enjoy integrating with the teams we work closely together with such as our community teams, interventional radiology and the claudication services and are happy to help/answer any questions that patients may have about their treatment.
