Private healthcare
You are able to access private healthcare at all of our hospitals. Our dedicated private ward is based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Private Health UHD provides consultant led care over a range of specialities within University Hospitals Dorset.
All income generated by Private Health UHD is reinvested back into University Hospitals Dorset. This supports the NHS to provide equipment, training and other resources. We opened in April 2017 and have invested millions of pounds into the Trust over this time. As well as receiving safe and high quality healthcare it also allows you to actively support your local NHS hospital.

Consultants run weekly or ad hoc outpatient clinics and offer a range of treatments, procedures and surgeries in the specialities of orthopaedic, vascular, dermatology, urology, oncology, haematology, gynaecology, gastroenterology, colorectal and ophthalmology. These are provided through PHUHD at all our sites Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals. These services can be provided on a self funding or insured basis.
The dedicated private ward – Bournemouth Private Clinic (BPC) is on the first floor of the West Wing next to Ward 11. This is a seven bedded ward and each are individual en suite rooms with air conditioning and Sky TV.
Amenity patients
Some NHS patients who are at Bournemouth Hospital can pay to stay on the private ward provided there is capacity. This will need to be agreed with your consultant and team looking after you. You will remain on an NHS pathway under that consultant's care during your stay on the BPC. As a dedicated private ward, we are able to provide additional nursing support for your stay. On the BPC there is open access for visitors, barista styled coffee and free parking for you and your visitors.
