The gift of Organ Donation saves and transforms the life of others and their loved ones.
A person may choose to gift some organs while they are alive through living organ donation. You can do this by clicking here.
However, most organ and tissue donations come from people who have died. In these circumstances Specialist Nurses will speak to you about your loved ones wishes. You can leave your loved ones certain of your wishes by registering your decision on the Organ Donor Register and informing them of your decision here.
From April 2025-March 2026, thanks to the selfless gift of 9 individuals and their families at University Hospital Dorset, an incredible 17 lives have been saved through the gift of organ donation and a further 16 patients also donated their cornea tissue giving the gift of sight to multiple patients.
There are currently over 8000 people on the transplant waiting list, including 80 people living in Dorset, which is the highest number on record to date so it is more important than ever to ensure your family are aware of your wishes.
