People who are more at risk of developing tuberculosis:

• Those with previous exposure to tuberculosis
• People born overseas or who have lived overseas for more than 3 months (particularly in countries with high TB rates)
• Refugees and people seeking asylum
• People with a history of homelessness
• People with a history of alcohol and /or drug addiction
• People who have been imprisoned
• People with occupational exposure to high risk groups
• People with lowered immune systems

Common Signs and Symptoms of active TB:

Please contact your GP if you are experiencing any of these symptoms for longer than 3 weeks.

• Cough with or without producing sputum
• Unexplained weight loss
• Excessive unexplained tiredness
• Reoccurring fevers
• Reoccurring drenching night sweats,
• Shortness of breath and /or chest pains
• Swollen lymph nodes

What should I do if I think I have TB?

If you think you have had recent close and prolonged exposure to a case of pulmonary (lung) TB or you have been experiencing any of the above symptoms for longer than 3 weeks, please contact your GP to discuss this. Your GP may arrange a chest X-Ray, ask you to provide sputum samples or refer you to a specialist team for review.

• Consultant and Specialist Nurse Led TB clinic appointments and home visits (due to resource pressures, routine clinic appointments are currently being operated as telephone appointments)
• Easy patient access with direct referral to TB Nurses via letter, email or telephone
• In hospital and outpatient review
• Access to active and latent TB clinical assessment
• Active and latent TB diagnosis or onward referral if appropriate
• Access to the National TB advisory group for complex cases
• Non- medical prescribing for both active and latent Tuberculosis and Non- Tuberculosis Mycobacterium
• TB vs regular medicine interaction checks
• Symptom and treatment side-effect management
• Patient, family, public TB education
• Assistance with the diagnosis, treatment and management of Non-Tuberculous Mycobacterium diseases
• Education to healthcare professionals on all aspects of TB control and prevention
• TB contact tracing
• Large-scale TB incident risk assessment and management
• Liaison with UKHSA, NHSE&I, CCG and LA with incident support
• New entrant TB screening
• Travel TB screening and BCG vaccination for high-risk occupations
• BCG vaccination for at risk children ages 1-16
• Choice of two hospitals – Poole or Bournemouth
• Large community catchment area from Swanage through to New Milton in Hampshire (including Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch), North to Ringwood and across to Wimborne and Blandford
