I’m going away or on holiday soon – should I still come?

A small number of women are recalled for repeat screening mammograms called (technical recalls) – see the breast screening appointment section. If you are away or we cannot contact you, your screening will be incomplete and your results will be delayed. It can be distressing to not have your results, therefore it may be best to reschedule your initial appointment when you return from your holiday.

Do you have late or weekend appointments?

We have early evening appointments and weekend appointments in some mobile locations. The early evening appointments are only available at Poole Hospital. Please call between 9am and 4.30pm select option two for more information.

Can I have a private mammogram instead?

Yes. Please contact your private healthcare provider or the private patients service at Poole Hospital on 0300 019 8191.

Can I have an ultrasound examination instead of a mammogram?

Ultrasound has not been shown to be as accurate for use in breast screening. If you would like more advice on radiation and risks concerning mammograms please see the links on the right hand side of the page.

I have moved to the area, how do I know I won’t get missed?

Every three months we run a ‘fail safe’ check which identifies any women who have changed GP practice. If you are registered with a GP and are eligible for a mammogram you will be called.

If you have recently changed GP and are either 53 and never had a mammogram, or it has been more than three years since your last mammogram, please call our department between 9am and 4.30pm on 01202 665511 and select option two.

You called and left a message with my partner or family member – but were unable to give them more information, why is this?

Due to confidentiality, we can only discuss your appointment with you. If you are looked after by a carer due to learning disabilities please indicate this and we will be pleased to accommodate your individual needs.

I’m worried about my appointment – is there any support/who can I call?

You are welcome to call us between 9am and 4.30pm on 01202 665511, select option two and we will endeavour to answer your questions.
