What is our NHS temporary staffing bank?

If you are looking for work around your current lifestyle and help create a work-life balance you are striving to achieve, University Hospitals Dorset NHS bank can help you create the flexible working schedule you desire. Bank shifts are available across all our main hospital sites and locations covering Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch – enabling you to expand and gain further NHS experience, as well as discovering where the right fit is for you.

Our bank offers hourly rates of pay, with enhancement opportunities, alongside flexibility to a wide range of professionals to work as and when they want to, including doctors and nurses, midwives, pharmacists and allied health professionals, healthcare assistants, administration, support staff and more.

Whether you would like an occasional shift, complete the hours you require to maintain your professional registration, considering a different role after retirement or planning to return to work after a break - we can help you get the work you want without being tied into contracted hours.

At University Hospitals Dorset, we cover The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital and Christchurch Hospital. We also have various sites and hubs across the region. As a bank member you can work and explore the diversity of the specialities that we cover.

Self-booking via online booking portal

Take control of your hours, and self-book into what hours are suited to you using our electronic rostering systems. Access shifts anytime, anywhere. Alternatively, our bookings team can support you 7 days a week during office hours.

Accommodation (UHD Residences)

Whether you need somewhere temporary to base yourself while on placement or something a little more permanent, we have a range of accommodation solutions to suit all needs. We also work with local affiliates to provide staff with package offers and discount codes for nearby hotels.

Royal Bournemouth Hospital Accommodation Village

Our Accommodation Village, located at the back of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site, contains 200 properties. These are generally flat shares made up of five bedrooms and a communal lounge and kitchen - ideal for getting to know a few friendly faces when you're new to the area.

What can you expect from a flat share?

  • The rooms are single bed rooms
  • Plenty of built-in storage
  • Spacious, fully equipped kitchen
  • Fresh linen provided every week
  • High speed wifi
  • All bills included
  • Parking usually available

What's the area outside the hospital like?

Our immediate neighbours include a Tesco superstore and two fitness centres, complete with pools - The Littledown Centre and Village Hotel gym. We're a short stroll to Castlepoint Shopping Centre and Southbourne beach and we're well connected by bus to central Bournemouth, Poole, Ringwood and Salisbury.

Abbotsbury House

Abbotsbury House is a 34 bedded property located in stunning Southbourne - just 1.5km from the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, 3.7km from Christchurch Hospital and 1.3km to Southbourne's beautiful sandy beach. These rooms are generally reserved for medical staff joining us.

What can you expect from Abbotsbury House?

As well as the shared flats, we have a number of one bedroom flats as well as two, three bed family houses.

What's the surrounding area like?

Southbourne offers a lovely high street, packed with local produce, cafes, bars and gift shops. It also boasts a blue flag beach, which stretches from Mudeford all the way round to Poole, offering beautiful views across the bay.

Abbotsbury House is located on a regular bus route into Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, as well as the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. It's also a two minute walk to Pokesdown train station, which offers services directly into London Waterloo as well as Southampton and Southampton airport.

Poole Hospital accommodation

We provide temporary accommodation to base yourself whilst on a placement or to support and help you to settle into the area and find a more permanent place of residence. There is a range of accommodation solutions to suit all needs.

Our accommodation ranges from four/three/two-bedroom family flats (limited availability) to single occupancy en-suite bedsit rooms (213). All our properties come fully furnished - including bed linen and a towel - and have laundry facilities on site. All accommodation is furnished and maintained to a high standard. Accommodation is located close to Poole Hospital:

Parkstone House (on the main site of the hospital)

A typical single occupancy en-suite bedsit room consists of:

  • En-suite bathrooms
  • Laundrette
