Consultants are doctors who are specialists in the area of diabetes. Each consultant has further developed specialist knowledge in different field which relate to diabetes.

Specialist Registrars
We have a number of registrars who are doctors training in the field of diabetes who rotate through the centre on a yearly basis. You may meet these trainee consultants during your time at BDEC.
Diabetes Specialist Nurses
Diabetes Specialist Nurses have expert knowledge in the field of diabetes. They will be able to help you understand the technology that you use to manage your diabetes. They can show you how to use all types of diabetes medicines and insulin devices, pumps and meters for checking blood sugars. They will also be able to help you adjust your medications to get good control of your diabetes. Most of our Diabetes Specialist Nurses also have specialist interests in certain aspects of diabetes care, for example pregnancy, or pumps.

Podiatrists
Podiatrists are experts in the management of conditions affecting the foot and leg. The Podiatrists working at BDEC have specialist knowledge and experience in the care of diabetic foot problems. Our Consultants, Dr Holt and Dr Page cover two foot clinics each week.
Debbie Sharman, our Non Medical Consultant Podiatrist leads the Diabetic Foot Service that covers Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital and the community Diabetic Foot Protection Service.

Clinical Psychologist
Living with a condition such as diabetes is not just about coping with the things you have to do, it is also about what it means to live with it day after day and how that can make you feel.
Our clinical psychologist is Clare Shaban.
Administration Team
Our administrative team are vital to the day to day workings of the centre.
There are number of administration staff at BDEC. These range from medical secretaries, retinal screening staff, secretaries organising our structured education courses and an auditor.
