Meet the team
Specialist nurses
Cancer nurse specialists (CNS)
Our cancer nurse specialists will support you through your treatment, from first investigations and diagnosis, through any surgery or other treatment you may need.
Sarah Trickett
Emily Cowley
Also working with the CNS team is Macmillan Assistant Practitioner Deborah-Lynn Wilkinson, who may speak to you regarding your on-going care needs during and after your treatment.
Research nurses
Our Research Team oversees clinical trials in the hospital and may speak to you about a trial which may add to medical understanding regarding current and future treatment options. If you are approached regarding a clinical trial, you are not under any obligation to take part, and should you wish to not take part, this will not affect your clinical care in any way. Clinical trials can offer several benefits to a patient's care experience, such as additional monitoring, increased medical treatment options and an additional point of contact. It has been shown that trusts that offer research trials offer better care to patients, even those patients who are not directly involved in the trial.
Andy Bates
Andy trained in Bristol, qualifying in 1998. He worked in a number of intensive care units across the country where he developed an interest in researching post-operative outcomes, dependent upon various interventions. Currently, the Royal Bournemouth Hospital is collaborating with University Hospital Southampton in research regarding the role of fitness and exercise in improving long-term results after surgery for cancer. If you need surgery for cancer, he may ask you if you'd like to be involved in this study, which involves fitness training before and after surgery, geared to each patient's personal needs.
Nurse practitioners
Our nurse practitioners are experienced nurses who have undertaken advanced training in a speciality area and are able to make clinical assessments and request appropriate investigations as required to support your overall care.
