Head and neck cancer
Head and neck cancer can occur in over 30 different places in the head and neck.
This type of cancer can include cancers of the mouth and lips, throat and voicebox and in other areas such your nose, ears and sinuses. The hospital has a head and neck cancer multi-disciplinary team (MDT), members of which have a specialist interest in the diagnosis, treatment and management of people with head and neck cancers. The team are made up of an experienced and specialised group of professionals who meet regualrly to discuss and monitor every patient diagnosed with head and neck cancer.
The discussion is centred around diagnosis and treatment or best supportive care options. The MDT meetings offer a forum for the team members to plan an agreed programme of treatment specific to individual patient needs. This approach ensures that all necessary investigations are carried out as quickly as possible. Treatment options are then discussed with the patient and their family and started without delay.
