Diabetes Nurse Clinic

The diabetes nurse specialists run their own clinics and see patients for most aspects of diabetes care. We can take referrals from consultants, GPs, Practice or District nurses and from individual patients.

We offer appointments to newly diagnosed people with Type 1 diabetes within 24 hours of referral during office hours.

We also typically see people with acute problems in their diabetes management and can initiate new treatments.

Clinics run every day Monday – Friday. Referrals are taken from letter or telephone call to 01202 704888.

The diabetes community service is run by Diabetes Specialist Nurses connected with Bournemouth Hospital.

Their role is to see patients with diabetes where the GP or Practice Nurse feel they need further specialist advice. This may be face to face or through discussion. They visit most of the Surgeries in the Bournemouth, Christchurch, West Moors, Ferndown and Kinson areas every 4 to 6 weeks. They are also available to GPs and Practice Nurses via telephone or email for advice between these clinics.

To see a Diabetes Nurse Specialist requires a referral from your GP or Practice Nurse. Their other role includes educating health professionals in Diabetes, keeping them up to date with current treatments and guidelines.
