Bournemouth Insulin Dose Adjustment Course - BIDAC (For health professionals)
BIDAC is a practical based course for health professionals who want training and support in order to set up structured education for Type 1 diabetes in their local areas. The aims of BIDAC are to provide knowledge, information, training and skills to enable health professionals to teach carbohydrate counting and insulin dose adjustment to patients with Type 1 Diabetes on multiple daily insulin therapy.
The 1 day course is held at the Village Hotel, situated next to Bournemouth Hospital. Health professionals are encouraged to attend in teams.
The course will cover the following topics:
- Defining training goals
- Essential principles of carbohydrate counting and calculation of insulin ratios
- Each meal is a learning opportunity
- Practical insulin adjustment scenarios
- Effect of exercise
- Sick day rules
- Learning theories
- Fulfilling NICE criteria
- Planning your course - timetables & lesson planning, curriculums, recruitment
- Data collection
- Psychological aspects
