MS Specialist Nurses
MS nurses are registered nurses with specialist training in MS.
In Dorset, we have MS Specialist Nurses and an MS Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) as part of our nursing team.
Living with MS can bring many challenges, but MS nurses are specially trained to understand these issues and provide the support you need. They also know about other services that you may need at different times, (such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy) and can refer or signpost you to these services if required.
What to expect from your MS nurse
MS Specialist Nurses are usually the MS team members who will see you when you have your initial assessment with the service (either when newly diagnosed or when transferring into the service), and who usually conduct an annual review of your MS with you.
They provide the education for the MS disease modifying drug (DMD) treatments and provide some DMD review clinics once you have started a DMD. They may also see you for specific symptoms or problems you may have as part of your MS.
On behalf of the MS Neurologist, the MS Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) will also conduct the full annual DMD review (which will take the place of your neurologist drug appointment).
Please see Appointments and clinics section for more details.
